The Structure

The Hotel Residence San Sano is located in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti in the middle of small medieval village of San Sano; the structure preserves the original features intact.....builded in tipical stones of Romanic style. The big tower (named torrione) is the highest building and rapresents tho most important part of the original Castle. In the hotel rooms you can observe there are still a fascinating testimonials of the ages.....for example a large sink of 1200 or the monumental fireplace of 1260; the history of the village is reported from the historical writings guarded in Uffizi museum in florence. Particluar are the citations of the small Romanic Church in San Sano reported in Pope decime of 1276-1277.

 

San Sano village is located at 400 mt high. Is a small medieval place where the medieval origins are witness by several house built in 1200 that are intact and well preserved. The name should be originated from a Latin Sentius, from where Sentianus and Sansano. Other testimonials report the origin of San Sano name from a cristian martyr Ansano. The romanic church dedicated to this martyr, would give the name to the village. Togheter with Adine church San Sano is reported by Repetti, as part of San Polo in Rosso area under the control of Baron Ricasoli family. Between XII and XVI century San Sana has been part of Florence republic. This is one of the excellent Chianti wine production. The Villifranchi, in his treaty of Tuscany enology printed in 1773, states as best place of Chianti" the territory of Chianti can be considered on 30-40 miles ed the best place for the production are Ama, Broglio, Castellina, San Sano and Cacchiano " Villifranchi Citation page 19.

 

The hotel gardens are surrounded by unique view on grape fileds of Chainti Classico owned by one of the most famous and old Iatlian family producers.....Antinori. The spectacular landscape on grapes and olive tree is very charming for our guests.
